Creative Fireplaces - DJ Cerphe

Photographing fireplaces doesn't necessarily sound like anything exciting, but when you get a chance to meet people like Cerphe and Susan Colwell at their lovely home in Reston, VA, it makes it a blast. Cerphe is the 55-year-old DJ that runs the afternoon shift at 94.7 the Globe (WTGB-FM). I also had a chance to meet James Carville (the husband of Mary Matalin) while shooting his colorful fireplace at their home in Alexandria. The story ran in The Washington Post on Thursday, December 20, 2007. Click on the title above to see the entire article.

Christmas in Middelburg, VA

Christmas in the country is exactly what Jonelle St. John and her husband Steve Zielenski, envisioned seven years ago when they bought Stonyhurst, a farm with an 1830 stone house sitting on a handsome rise in Middleburg: holiday snowball fights and runs outside with their dogs, followed by warming up around a roaring fire.

I had the pleasure of photographing their home on a beautiful December morning just after the Northern Virginia area had just received a few inches of snow. You can see the entire story in The Washington Post by clicking on the title above.

Fairfax County Inauguration

I had the pleasure to photograph the inauguration ceremony for the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors. I had a chance to spend a few minutes with each Supervisor while taking their portraits, I can honestly say that Fairfax County is in good hands. But the best part of the evening was getting a chance to meet the very proud family members of the Supervisors. Archana Krishnan's Dance Recital

I had the pleasure of photographing the Bharatha Natya Arangetram of Archana Anandakrishnan, daughter of Uma and Dr. Ravi Krishnan. She was amazing. She danced at the Baltimore Museum of Art in front of a packed house of over 300 guests. The show lasted over three hours. Needless to say, she was exhausted by the end, but you would have never known it by her dancing.

Women in Government Summit

Women in Government held the Third Annual HPV & Cervical Cancer Summit with Donnica L. Moore, MD as MC and Alice Albright as the keynote speaker. The events were held at The Kennedy Center and at the Fairmont Hotel in Washington, DC. I photographed the event for Women in Government.

Honorees included The National Lieutenant Governor’s Association, which was accepted by Pennsylvania Lt. Governor Catherine Baker Knoll, Carolyn Jacobson, Dr. Henrietta Campbell, Dr. Michael Kasper, MD, Allison Hicks, Senator Connie Lawson (R/IN), Representative Karen Morgan (D/UT), and Dr. Estelle Whitney (DE).

REFINED - Anna Applegate and Kathryn Ivey

Anna Applegate and Kathryn Ivey, longtime friends who went to school together at University of North Carolina (UNC) and now live in Alexandria's Del Ray neighborhood, have turned their love of finding and refurbishing vintage furnishings into a blossoming business. This summer, they started Refined (, a venture that they run via a blog. I took a few pictures of them with some of their finds at their homes for The Washington Post Home Section. See the article by clicking the title above.

Puppy Ware Party

It's a dog's world. I was lucky enough to take pictures of a Shure Pets party for the Washington Post ... sort of a tupperware party for dogs. About 10 dog owners came to the party with their dogs. The most interesting aspect was watching the dogs interact with each other. Catch the story in the POST by clicking the title line above.

Eric Schaeffer Signature Theatre artistic director, Arlington

Eric was the feature for The Washington Post's "Feels Like Home" article. He bought his home from a friend who designed the home, it is a really interesting layout. As you can see from the picture, Eric was a real trooper and was willing to do what it took to make the photo interesting. You can catch one of his plays at the Signature Theater in Arlington, VA. Click on the title above to read about his favorite spot in his home.

Judy Jashinsky Artist, Washington

This weeks "Feels Like Home" article in The Washington Post featured a photo of Judy that I took. Here home was very unique with her beautiful paintings covering her black walls.

Pastry chefs Josh Short, Mary Lee Montfort and Raeanne Hytone help the Girl Scout Bake Sale

Members of Cadette/Senior Girl Scout Troop 4445 wanted to hone their baking skills to put on a first class bake sale.

Demonstrating their resourcefulness, the girls sent an e-mail to The Washington Post's Chef on Call: "We want to have different items that one wouldn't expect to see at a bake sale. And we would like the help of your chef with that."

They hit the jackpot. Pastry chefs Josh Short, Mary Lee Montfort and Raeanne Hytone, along with bake-sale expert and former Journal Newspapers food editor Jane Mengenhauser, showed up at the Bethesda home of Charlotte's parents, Connie Cantrell and Steve Goldman.

I had the pleasure of photographing these treats being baked and I sampled a few. The chocolate peanut butter cake was absolutely amazing. You can read the entire article in the Post by clicking the title above.
